As a 30-year user of non-electric pressure cookers, I purchased this item on September 7, 2019.. I experimented with eggs, baked potatoes, rice, meat, and finally scalloped potatoes. Perfect outcome each time and comparable to cooking times of my German top-of-the-line stove pressure cooker. The rice I prefer normally takes an hour and a half on the stove, whereas in this pot it only required 35 minutes. I must admit, I could not have become as knowledgeable about this product if it were not for YouTube. Every feature is on video demonstration.
I like to make Risotto but is take a long time. I was able to cook everything in the same pot and it was done in about 20 minutes (including heat up time). I made short ribs and they were fork tender in 35 minutes. The unit works well and is easy to understand but there isn't a manual to show you how to operate. I suppose I can search on line. Cleaning is easy. One small complaint is the length of the cord is a bit short. Because the unit vents steam I put it under the stove hood and turn on the vent. The cord needs to be about 6" longer to reach the stove so I placed it on the counter next to the stove. That's more preference than requirement. Looking forward to making other long lead items in no time.
Just made pot roast in my new Instant Pot - was absolutely delicious. Took just over an hour to cook and was just as yummy as if I'd cooked it for four hours in the oven! I recommend this appliance!Plan to read the directions before you plan to cook in your instant pot and do the water stuff first - plan to take a while to figure out your pot. There are plenty of videos to help you through this, should you need the reassurance. Lots of recipes on-line too!
I've never owned a pressure cooker before; I've used this twice now...so easy and FAST! My only complaint is the manual reads you must use red sealing ring before use (and shows a picture of the red sealing ring). Being a newbie, I had no idea a sealing ring (opaque white) was already in place inside the lid. Turns out the red sealing ring is EXTRA one, so trust me when I share with you, THE LID WILL NOT CLOSE trying to use BOTH sealing rings!
Following a visit to Gainesville to watch the Gators we stopped in at our friends daughters student accommodation and she told us about the wonders of the Instant Pot. Skeptical? Yeah but I thought let's give this a go. Costco had an offer on of $20 off so that made the decision even easier and what a decision this has proven to be. The instant Pot is an excellent addition to our kitchen. After looking at some 'cheat' sheets for cooking times we jumped in and the results have been tremendous. I have adapted some of our crock pot recipes and have joined a number of communities for recipes and to be honest we haven't had a single failure. Great tender, flavorful and moist meats and perfectly cooked vegetables. I would definitely recommend trying this out.
I own 4 Instant Pots. I purchased this specifically for the sous vide option. I was a little intimidated at 1st because there is not a lot of information in the user manual. I went ahead and tried a chuck roast for 24 hours and it was fantastic! The only drawback I can see with the built in sous vide is the capacity of the 6qt pot as opposed to an immersion wand that can be used in any size pot. I'm very happy with my purchase!
This unit seems to be very well made and is easy to use and to clean. It cooks well and is more flexible that the previous models I've owned. The only concern I have is the valve used to vent steam for quick cooling doesn't attach securely. The first time i used it hot broth sprayed onto the counter. The valve positions for "sealing" and "venting" aren't clearly legible since they are located at the back of the pot. I don't consider this a major defect; I'll get used to it, but it prevents me from giving this appliance a 5 star rating.
